Victim First

Victim First were referred a case by Leicestershire Police concerning racial harassment. The service user, a mother, had been enduring threats towards her and her family, as well as being subjected to distressing acts. This harassment had left her feeling anxious and unsafe in her own home, to the point where she considered moving to escape the situation.

As a family, they felt intimidated and unsafe in their own space, and simple activities like going to school or doing their shopping were becoming sources of extreme distress.

She disclosed the situation had taken a severe toll on her mental health and expressed that her home was no longer the sanctuary it should be.

Working with Victim First allowed this lady to open up and cry when the weight of the situation became too overwhelming. She had space to voice her feelings and her concerns were validated, letting her know she wasn’t alone, it was crucial to let her know that her voice mattered.

Her practical needs and wellbeing were assessed, a referral was made to increase the security of her home, a letter was drafted to housing support outlining her current situation and the urgency of her case. Further support was sought via her local MP and the anti-social behaviour team.
